Organizing the Inside – Day 216 Love Beyond Death

41He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Jesus agonized over what was before Him.
He experienced great anguish because of what He knew He had to do. I honestly cannot comprehend the pain of all the sin, deceit, sickness, disease, poverty, fear, hate and disobedience of all mankind being placed upon One who knew no sin. What an indescribable burden He was about to carry. I believe although Jesus was 100% God, He was also 100% man and this was a time of tremendous grief and sorrow for Him. He even asked God if it was possible to take the cup away. Christ, the man considered not having to go through what was before Him.

His love said, not so.
Although Christ asked God if it was possible for Him to not face the cross, the love He had for us all compelled Him to give His life. As Christ accepted the will of God, His love kept Him on track. It was His love for the Father that assured Him of His and our eternal glory. He loved us so much that He was willing to lay down His life for our freedom. Erasing our guilt, sin and shame; He knew death, hell and the grave would also be defeated. What a purpose and cause to live for? What a cause to suffer and die for? What love?

Just as Christ had a purpose, so do we.
Most Christians have not had to suffer unto death to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives. However, each of us must die to our own selfish desires. Saying no to the world and yes to God in spite of our own wants is passing on the same love that Christ has for us. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (KJV) We have been made strong through Christ’s suffering and God will continue to strengthen you and me for the road that is before us. May we each reach the point where our hearts are filled with enough love, whereby we trust God no matter how great the sacrifice, no matter what the cost.  Also read Isaiah 53
