Organizing the Inside – Day 208 Do You Have A Form?

They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
2 Timothy 3:5
(NLT)

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: (KJV)

Many people consider themselves good Christians.
Is their Christianity according to the knowledge of God through Jesus Christ?  There are some communities where most everyone feels they are good Christians, raising their children in a “Christian home.” But what does that mean?  Going to church, knowing exactly how to wave your hand instead of saying “Amen” is something many learn early, especially when they are good church going folks. So many, who have established their own form of righteousness are quick to point out that they were raised in a “good Christian home,” and that they are “a good person.” The problem with this is somehow they have built a false religion unto themselves. These are absolutely the hardest people to witness to, because their righteousness is not according to knowledge, and has absolutely nothing to do with redemption through Christ. Sunday after Sunday they walk orderly to the front and drop their offering in the basket, feeling as though their obedience has been fulfilled. Taking their seat again in the pew they feel a sense of pride because of their good works.

God is not interested in their good works, most of which will be burnt up when Jesus returns. (2 Peter 3:10)  God is interested in man’s heart.  Look inward and ask yourself a question. Do I have a form of godliness?  If you’ve been around church folks for any length of time, you probably know how to look, act and finish all the clichés like, “God is good… all the time.”  But the time is coming–indeed it’s here now–when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. John 4:23 (NLT) Looking good on the outside is meaningless when your inside is hurting because of sin. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Psalm 51:6 (KJV)
It’s time for all the “good Christians” to seek God’s wisdom and live a life of holiness. Allow God into the inner parts of your heart and mind, while asking Him to help you change.  For without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14b (NIV)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, Romans 12:2 (KJV) I am convinced of this, God doesn’t want us to have a form, He wants us transformed into the very image and likeness of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Having the mind of Christ begins with change that happens on the inside. It has nothing to do with how well you can act, pray, sing, give, or talk like a Christian…it’s about real change; which only comes one way, through Jesus.

Organizing the Inside – Day 201 Casting Down Every High Thing

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;   2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)

Every negative “what-if” has paraded itself through your mind and now you are a nervous wreck.
That never has to happen to you again; really you can overcome this too. Your mind can be controlled by the spirit man but it will take a bit of practice. Just because your mind decides to hold you hostage by going into the mental default mode, “negative” doesn’t mean you have to go along with it. The Word of God teaches us that we have power over our minds.

Jesus bore negative thoughts when He hung on the cross.
Right along with our sins, Jesus also paid the price for our physical health and our mental health. Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”  There is nothing that can torment your peace more than negative thoughts that just keep popping up, right?

You may have to assert your authority.
Negative thoughts are a trick of the enemy; there is nothing new in his arsenal of weapons. The Greater One is in you!  First settle this in your mind, that Jesus died for you to be FREE mentally, spiritually and physically. Next settle it in your heart that you have the power to do what the Word of God says; bring every thought under the obedience of Christ.

If you are struggling with fear about the future because of bad thoughts your problem is more common than you think. I think every Christian at one time or another has had the forces of the enemy try to attack their thought life.  Here are some real life applications that will help you conquer a cluttered thought life once and for all.  If you practice making these changes it will change your life.

Seven Ways to Take Charge of Your Thoughts:
You can take each one captive and make it obey the Word of God.

1). Memorize scripture that you can recite out loud when your thoughts are under attack. Philippians 4:8 and Isaiah 41:10 are both an excellent place to start.

2). Speak directly to the negative thought and say “Negative thought, I take authority over you in the name of Jesus, you have no power and I render you null and void.”

3). Pray in the spirit, your mind can not comprehend, but the Word says, He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; 1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV)

4). Write down the negative thought and then go through the process of actually burning the paper.  This will work as a visual image that the thought has been destroyed.

5). When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He spoke the Word of God.  Speak the Word of God aloud and say, “It is written (fill in your scripture here).” If there is a particular thought that keeps coming up then you can look up a specific scripture to use.  This will help to increase your faith, because faith comes by hearing the Word of God. So make sure you speak the words don’t just think them.

6). Sing praise songs.  God inhabits the praises of His people.  Psalm 22:3. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty 2 Corinthians 3:17 and your mind can not and will not stay in bondage to negative thoughts when you are praising God.

7). Meditate on the Word of God. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) Meditation is a way of recalling, pondering, thinking deeply and digesting the Word of God, over and over and over. As your mind and your heart embraces the powerful, anointed Word of God the bondage will be broken.  It is the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage Isaiah 10:27 and Jesus is the anointed one Luke 4:18 and He is the Word. John 1:14

EXTRA: Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Psalm 103:1 (KJV) Your mind is within you.  Speak to your mind and tell it that it must obey the Word of God. What you say has the same creative force behind it as the Word of God, because you are created in His image and in His likeness.  All the more powerful than what you say is when you speak the written Word.  You have the authority to do it, now all you have to do is act on that authority.

Thank God for Jesus who came that we might have life and have it more abundantly! (John 10:10)

If you know of other ways to cast down negative thoughts, I invite you to post a comment. To help a sister who might be struggling.

Organizing the Inside – Day 125 Insecure, Who Me?

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
~Hebrews 4:12

God isn’t waiting for you to get there before He can use you. God wants to use you along the way. Insecurities are sometimes our way of protecting ourselves from disappointment or embarrassment. Feeling insecure is normal, but it is not something that we just have to live with. The Word of God is the only thing that can go deep enough into your heart and soul to free you from your insecurities.  Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part you shall make me to know wisdom. Psalm 51:6

You are born with all your gifts intact.
Certainly there is a period of growth in which you will have time to develop those gifts, but the ones you have are perfect for you. So accept your gifts as God’s best for you and they will help facilitate your contribution to the Kingdom of God. The more you accept the fact that you are fully capable of doing whatever it is that God has put in your heart to do, the sooner you can stop nurturing your insecurities and get on with the business of fulfilling God’s plan for your live.

Secret insecurities are a trick of the enemy.
The enemy would have you to doubt yourself and second guess God until you have gone on to glory. It is by no means to his advantage that you would discover the boldness that only the Holy Spirit can give, and stop listening to the untrue voice in your head. Yes! Listen to the voice in your heart. No matter how farfetched it may seem.  I’ve had dreams that, then seemed to be the furthest thing from the truth, but in fact those dreams were part of God’s plan for my life. The devil has no real power (it was stripped from him by Christ) and so he can only try to trick you into believing his lies. He wants to deceive you into forfeiting your true power; the power of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of you.

I used my insecurities to prove I couldn’t move ahead for far too long.
When it was convenient, I would wear them like a banner. (but, usually I’d keep my insecurities hidden) “Well you know I could never do that I’m too shy” and of course it would work. One day I realized just how foolish it was to let my insecurities choke out my dreams. I realized that unless I allowed God to show me how to break down some of those barriers I would never get to experience certain things in life. In spite of all my progress, insecurities have a tendency to rear their ugly head when I least expect them. But thank God for the Holy Spirit who exposes the truth and brings everything that is hidden to light.

Let the light and truth of the Word of God shine inward on every area of your life.
You need to bring it out and let God deal with it. Let Him shine the light on those insecurities and expose your hidden secrets of shame and defeat. For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.  Mark 4:22 As the light exposes that which is hidden, you’ll start to see your insecurities for what they are. They are nothing like the truth; a lie straight from the pits of hell, lingering there in your mind trying to hold you back from serving God.  That lie is telling you that you can’t, when the Word says you can; or telling you you’re not smart enough when God said, you have the mind of Christ. So whether you’ve been thinking you’re too short or too tall or too big or too small (and those are the nicer ones) realize today that God made you in His image and in His likeness, and He filled you with His power, to enable you do His will.  I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12 Jesus said he was going, but He would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit. (also read John 16:17, John 15:26 and John 14:3)

With the start of the New Year well underway, put it on the top of your list of things to do; to LET GO of all those INSECURITIES and realize what God said. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.  Philippians 4:13 Once you realize it accept it and make it a part of your everyday life. You may at first feel as though you are calling those things that aren’t as though they were, but don’t give up.  The power of God’s promise is within the promise itself, and the truth of that promise will MAKE YOU FREE.

Organizing the Inside – Day 69 Let This Mind Be in You…

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  ~ Philippians 4:8

Your mental state affects your overall well-being.
When you worry or are fearful and fretful, your body responds with stress headaches, tensed muscles and aches and pains.  Learn to take control of your thoughts and you will feel healthier. It is a trick of the devil to try to keep you off-balance with worry that’s paralyzing and keeps you from moving forward.

You can have the mind of Christ.
Having negative thoughts is not uncommon to women, it happens to be the price we pay for living in an imperfect world. Negative thoughts don’t have to dominate your mind. Pay attention to the kind of thoughts you are having. Often those thoughts aren’t reasonable nor do they reflect the truth about the matter. Are the negative thoughts you’re having contrary to the Word of God?  If your thoughts don’t line up with the Word of God you should let them go.

You are more than a conqueror.
You can’t concentrate on more than one thing at a time and putting your focus in the right place will help you deal with the problem of negative thoughts. Meditating on the Psalms and speaking scriptures will keep your mind filled with positive thoughts. Consider how God’s faithfulness endures forever. Think about past victories you have had with God. Recalling positive experiences will inspire and allow you to simplify your life by having a victorious thought life.
