Day 43- Keeping The Remote Under Control

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
~ Isaiah 26:3

What unnecessary burdens do we take on when we grab the remote and turn on the news?  Are we supposed to be concerned with every aspect of the world’s problems and woes? Is getting a not so healthy dose of the “world news report” only to then sit through an additional hour of local news good food for our minds?  Certainly we should care about what’s happening in other parts of the world and in our own neighborhoods, but we must be mindful of just how much added stress we allow ourselves to be immersed in.  The report of violence, corruption, financial crashes, car crashes and plane crashes often leave me feeling worse than all the day’s stress combined.

I’m electing to change this factor in my life.  CNN, NBC and ABC can only get a small part of my time and mind.  I’ve decided instead to focus more attention toward praying for the people who had the misfortune of making it on the news in the first place.  I suspect if more Christians spent less time allowing the evening news to infiltrate our peace of mind, and more time on our knees there would be less, so much less to report on.

God would not have us be ignorant, but most certainly He doesn’t want His beloved daughters to trade having the mind of Christ for the cares, complexities and chaos of the world.  Also read Philippians 2:5

Day 42- I Keep Making the Same Mistake

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;  ~Proverbs 30:25

Dear Lord, I can’t find my keys again, and the mail has piled up so that my bag now needs to go into a box or a bigger bag.  One of the biggest mistakes many busy women make creates stress that God never intended them to experience.  God demonstrates just how organized He is throughout the scriptures.  With so many examples of instructions that were given that required one to “follow the plan”, we should be clear about God’s intent for us to have order in our lives.

God made plans to redeem man long before the foundation of the earth. Even the ants are productive during the summer because they know that winter is coming and they must be prepared.

If the ants – so tiny, so smart can make preparations for the future, then we too can plan ahead to make sure we aren’t distressed when we should be at ease.  Decide now that you will stop making the same old mistake of not taking time to make plans and organize yourself.  I find this is one of the most common mistakes my clients repeat; not taking time out to restore order or make proper plans.  If you can’t find your keys again today, plan for a solution. Have duplicates made that you can leave with a neighbor or trusted friend.  STOP, and make plans for a solution so you can move forward without so much unnecessary stress.

Day 39- Just How Important is Sleep?

It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.  ~Psalm 127:2

Are you ever so busy that somehow sleep becomes overrated?  This has always been a struggle for me.  Especially if you are a busy mom or a solopreneur,  there is always one more email to answer, one more thing to get done before you finally lay your head down for rest.

More and more I am discovering just how important sleep is to my physical and mental health.  Our bodies need time to rejuvenate and our strength must be replenished.  Let’s not forget it was God, who created us as beings that need to rest.  We’re created in His image and even God had to rest.  Being busy from early morning to late evening is nothing to be proud of.

If you feel you’re even too busy to meet with God for quiet time and prayer; you’ve got it bad and something needs to change.  God wants us to take time from our busy day to embrace what really matters and spend quality time with loved ones, not just serve them.  Listen to the Holy Spirit sometimes He tells us lights out, and we need to simply say, “yes Lord” and get some rest.  Also read Luke 10:39-42

Day 31- Anxiety Is Overrated

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~Philippians 4:6

Are you letting your worries and the what-ifs in life keep you from being all you can be?  Maybe the anxiety is keeping you from doing all that you can do for the kingdom of God.  Today after having recovered from the stress of the stress brought on by almost worrying myself out of a victory, I finally faced my fear and decided to trust God, but not until the very last minute.

I knew I needed my wisdom tooth removed for months.  It took me that long to do something about it, because I had perceived the pain and tragedy of a possible broken jaw or overdosing on anesthesia was more than my little fearful heart could handle.

How foolish I felt when after all that worry and self inflicted anxiety I breezed through it almost as easy as standing in line at the grocery store. My BP read 178/96 and to my doctor’s surprise I’d never been diagnosed with high blood pressure. The worry and stress brought my numbers almost off the charts in an otherwise healthy individual. Silly me, I should have just trusted God from the very beginning.

If your anxiety is keeping you from doing something that you know you should do.  Or perhaps you are avoiding an opportunity to serve simply because your imagination has been corrupted by fear.  Take it from me it is so much easier to trust God from the beginning.  Enjoy the victory, it has already been won, trust God today even if the giant in your life is as big as my wisdom tooth.
