Organizing the Inside – Day 248 Offer Unto God Thanksgiving

No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 (NLT)

The Israelites often missed God.
At times they just seemed to want to take the road that appealed most to their flesh. In earlier verses you’ll read that they were looking for ways to appease God, overly concerned with what type of sacrifices they could offer Him. Their misdirected solutions may have seemed reasonable to some. But, the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17 (NIV)

Stand firm against the temptation to make the wrong sacrifices.
Still today many seem resistant to accepting the new and living way, whereby we submit to the Spirit of God. When living life your own way, you find yourself in a quandary, looking for a way out, making sacrifices and offerings as an abominable attempt to pay-off bad choices. Many fill the altar with tears and proclamations about what they are willing to give up again and again in exchange for another last chance to change. God doesn’t want this type of sacrifice, He wants obedience. Living life humbly in Christ really has nothing to do with what we give up and has everything to do with what we willingly receive in our hearts. 13Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? 14Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.15Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” Psalm 50:13-15 (NLT)

Simplify your life and offer thanks for the new covenant.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit you can live the simple and uncluttered life that God requires. Jesus died to free you and me from all the confusion that trying to do things our way brings. God’s Word gives us a simple uncomplicated formula to live by:
1. Do what is right
2. Love mercy
3. Walk humbly with God.
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the LORD. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Jeremiah 31:33 (NLT) No need to try to make pay-offs for past mistakes. Jesus is the complete and full sacrifice. Stop trying to give up this or that. God has given you the strength to live right, show mercy and walk in harmony with Him. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Romans 3:22 (NLT) By receiving God’s glorious gift of redemption, there is no longer a need to concern yourself with which sacrifice you’ll bring each day.

I was reading Numbers this morning, and I was getting frustrated with the Israelites. They continuously would doubt God, and want to simply die. Then God said “fine, then die in the wilderness as you’ve asked”. When they got what they wanted, they said “oh, we’re sorry, we’re ready to go to the Promised Land”. They were continuously missing the point. Simply accept God’s love. He knows what’s best. If they’d just listened in the first place, things would have worked out in their favour.

Hey there Liz you make an awesome point, with what you said about the Israelites, “They were continuously missing the point. Simply accept God’s love. He knows what’s best.” Things get so complicated when we don’t just accept God’s provisions. A continued unwillingness to make the right choices only complicates life. So great to hear from you! Thanks for sharing.

Psalm 51:17 is one of my very favorite verses…It has encouraged me from the beginning to remember that God wants me to give over all of myself to Him, so He can bind up my broken heart and heal me and make me new!

I am also reminded of Saul when he started disobeying God. He said it was so he could offer sacrifices to God. Samuel quickly put him in his place – reminding him that the offering that pleases the Lord is obedience (1 Sam. 15:22-23). Even if we are trying to do the “right” thing, we can get it wrong if we are not totally relying on God’s Spirit to guide us. He alone is wisdom. Only as we humble ourselves and walk in obedience can we do what is right.

This is a powerful post, Liz! May we live in the freedom that our sins are forgiven, and walk in obedience as our offering of thanksgiving and praise!!

Love in Christ,
Natalie

Hi Natalie, what you said is so very true, “He alone is wisdom.” Jesus is the wisdom in Proverbs and I’d hate to consider what life would be like without Him and the truth of His Word. Thanks so much for sharing your insight.

Liz, people are not giving their hearts at the altar. They are giving God their emotions, which change from day to day. They get caught in their lack their of. Seek God with a pure heart and something happens on the inside. Leave those emotions and bring the wellspring (core) of your heart to Christ. He will do the rest. Some people need to stop playing church and using God’s temple as a fashion show. I like to call them celebrities of the church. God is the spotlight, and He need faithful followers not leaders to lead Him. Glory to God, truth must be spoken. God you are awesome and magnificent. If you lay down with the devil you wake up in Hell. Wake up and serve the Lord, and only HIm.
Liz, God is God, so why don’t they let Him be.

Shenine, God is God and He is God all by Himself. Regardless of what folks say or do, their selfish deeds or self-centered greed will not diminish His glorious power. We must pray for them and redeem the time. Jesus is coming back for a church without spot or wrinkle. Now is the time to hold fast to our faith and look to Jesus alone who is the author and finisher of our faith. Thank you for your comment… Note to self: Shenine is on fire for the Lord. Stay strong.
