1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. Genesis 11:1, 4-7 (KJV)
Your ability to dream and plan are both gifts from God.
You can learn to harness the power of your imagination and find true fulfillment as you pursue God’s plan for your life. When used properly your imagination serves a purpose and will enable you to see vivid images of blessings to come. Imagination is a gift that enables us to power up our faith. Like Nimrod and the people who decided to build a tower to reach heaven, our imagination can inspire us to do what seems impossible. When our motives are right, God will make our plans succeed. We must not misuse our gifts by pursuing our own will instead of God’s.
God confounded their language.
It was not His will that there would be this tower that reached heaven and He had to put an end to their self promoting work. God did say that they could achieve whatever they’d imagined. This was serious business and God Himself had to come down and check out what they were doing and put an end to it. There is a great deal that we can glean from this passage.
- There is tremendous power in agreement.
- When we work together and are on one accord the possibilities are amazing.
- You can achieve what you’ve imagined.
- If what you are doing is God’s will, it won’t be about you making a name for yourself.
- Make sure your plans are meant to bring God honor or they won’t succeed.
What towers have you built?
It’s up to each of us to be aware of our own personal motives and exercise humility that honors God. Some build towers that are meant to honor themselves. Take a moment to look inside and make sure you haven’t built any towers unto yourself. Houses, cars, businesses, ministries, expensive clothes, and even professional accomplishments sometimes end up being misused as a way to gain prestige among men. It’s God who gives us the power to get wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV) Everything that we have been given, or will ever achieve is meant to help others and glorify God.
Liz you hit a base hit on this one. I am greatful for this message today. Working for the Holy Spirit as a vision from God the Father is actively materializing is a blessed experience. This is ALL possible because of God the Son. When the synergy between them is at work in me, THINGS GET DONE! However, encouragement is limited from my surroundings. God continues to send encouragement my way in the most auspicious ways. God bless you sister.
Stay in the race.
Hey there Conqueror shots! Jesus led the way and said that we would do even greater works. How awesome is that? I love your point about the synergy… It’s that same power that raised Jesus from the dead at work in the life of a believer that ensures things will GET DONE. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate you stopping by. May God meet you at your point of need, and continue to send encouragement in ways you don’t expect.
