Organizing the Inside – Day 135 Make Room For Things To Come
You will clear out old food supplies to make room for new ones.
~Leviticus 26:10
Today marks the halfway point of the first month of the New Year.
How excited we were to make changes that would improve our lives and others. Many of us have begun a spiritual journey of renewal. Many of us have decided to change our health habits and fitness routines; signing up for a new gym membership or finally breaking the seal on those Hip-Hop Abs DVDs. Perhaps you determined you would start eating better and eliminated certain things from your diet. No matter what your resolutions or goals for the New Year may have been, your progress or lack thereof is well underway.
January is GO “Get Organized” month.
There are some who have started their New Year pursuits only to discover that you overlooked first making proper preparation. Proper preparation is critical to the success of any mission and if you’ve found that you were either not mentally or otherwise prepared for your new venture it’s not too late to make a few adjustments. Getting organized requires preparation, here are some things to consider.
Out with the old and in with the new.
Before we can have room for the new we must clear out the old. Are there things in your life that you need to let go of? If you are expecting God to bring something new in your life, make sure you’ve cleared out the old first.
My husband JR and I usually go grocery shopping on Saturdays and I used to be so frustrated when we would come home from the grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables and other yummy foods only to discover that there wasn’t much room in the fridge. We’d have to clear peas from last week or the lettuce that we didn’t eat, which was left in the “rotter.” You know those special drawers at the bottom of the fridge that keep veggies fresh, but actually causes us to forget they are there; we call those ”rotters.” The point I’m making is that the new food then has to set out until we can clear out the old and reorganize some things to make room for the new. Eventually I realized it makes a lot more sense to clean out the refrigerator before going shopping. Now when we come home with fresh cold food it isn’t left out while I prepare space for it. Making room for the new is part of smart planning and preparation which is a practice that can be applied to almost any area of your life.
Keeping your spiritual life organized.
Start with getting rid of all those things that need to go. Bad relationships, watching ungodly television programs, perhaps a particular word you use that is just not nice, or even those ill-fitting pants or sweaters that are a bit too tight, both of which God told you last year you should stop wearing. Whatever you need to let go of, take time to do it now. The longer you wait the longer you are holding up the blessings God has waiting for you.
Part of holding on is the fear we won’t get it back.
Sometimes we are also afraid of how our lives would be changed; and I admit change can be uncomfortable; but I’m sure you’ll also agree change can be very, very, exciting. Once you try letting go of the old, you’ll see how freeing it is. Let go of all those old dusty memories and things that keep you in the past. Turn your attention toward all the wonderful, new and exciting things that God wants to bring into your life. Clean out those physical, spiritual and mental closets, and allow God to bring in something new. You will find the burnt-out feeling you get from having too many of the wrong things suddenly disappears, and frees you to welcome in the new. Go ahead and tackle those pending projects, but for other matters, simply OBEY GOD and let go of whatever He’s already told you to let go of.
