Organizing the Inside – Day 76 Think Then Speak

19Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
~ James 1:19

You want to hit the delete key on your big mouth.
It doesn’t happen often but when it does you just want the ground to swallow you up.  You want to kick yourself, because you can’t take back what you said.  Oh no, so you apologize hoping that somehow you can get over your embarrassment within the next 10 years.  You had a momentary lapse in judgment; while you can’t hit the delete key you can offer a sincere apology and move forward.

Conversational blunders are difficult to deal with;
especially if your words embarrassed or hurt the other person.  You wish your mouth wouldn’t overshadow the intent of your heart but at times it does. Leaving you to explain your way out of another, “no I didn’t” just say that moment. Relationships can be hard enough and communication is not always easy, but with a little practice and forethought you can speak fruitful words of life build up and encourage.

Speaking words that encourage, starts with the intent of your heart.
When you are in a conversation be quick to listen.  Listen to what the other person is saying without thinking about what you want to say before they even finish their thought. Be slow to speak, by taking a moment to consider what your reply will be. People know if you really care and are engaged in the conversation or if you just want to make a point. If your heart is in the right place then your conversations will inspire those around you. Others will want to hear what you have to say, because the words you use bring about healing in their lives.  Also read James 3:6
