Organizing the Inside – Day 71 Let’s Put First Things First
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. ~ Psalm 5:3
Did you set the alarm to go off at the very last-minute again?
Do you factor in an extra 10 or 15 minutes of snoozing? You’ve already decided not to get up when the alarm goes off. You lay there and decide what you are going to wear today…you just saved another 10 minutes. Then you think, hey I’m not going to put on my makeup until I’m in the car… you saved another 6 minutes. Before you realize it your laziness has taken control of your morning and the odds are now stacked against. You’re going to be stressed and pressed all morning long.
You have struggled with this since you can remember.
You want to be done with all the running around the house looking for what you know you left on the coffee table yesterday. You make up excuses about traffic or weather and are totally embarrassed when your boss looks at you and then glances at his watch. Let’s just agree it’s time you handle your business and get this stress filled-speeding in rush hour traffic-because you didn’t get up foolishness under control.
Starting your day off like that is (not) for the birds.
Even the birds wake up early and sing their songs of praise before sunrise. Why do you pretend that your morning will be more tolerable if you stay in bed for an extra 20 minutes? This is not how you want to live. Consider getting up 20 minutes earlier, just think about it. The benefits and rewards of allowing yourself morning quiet time with God will change the entire course of your day. You will soon discover how pleasant, calm and unhurried your day will be. You’ll see that God will give you that time back in increased productivity and peace of mind.
When we put God first it gives us a completely different prospective because we are better prepared to deal with the challenges of the day. Make it a habit. Try this for 21 days you will never want to go back to the way things were.
