Day 43- Keeping The Remote Under Control

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
~ Isaiah 26:3

What unnecessary burdens do we take on when we grab the remote and turn on the news?  Are we supposed to be concerned with every aspect of the world’s problems and woes? Is getting a not so healthy dose of the “world news report” only to then sit through an additional hour of local news good food for our minds?  Certainly we should care about what’s happening in other parts of the world and in our own neighborhoods, but we must be mindful of just how much added stress we allow ourselves to be immersed in.  The report of violence, corruption, financial crashes, car crashes and plane crashes often leave me feeling worse than all the day’s stress combined.

I’m electing to change this factor in my life.  CNN, NBC and ABC can only get a small part of my time and mind.  I’ve decided instead to focus more attention toward praying for the people who had the misfortune of making it on the news in the first place.  I suspect if more Christians spent less time allowing the evening news to infiltrate our peace of mind, and more time on our knees there would be less, so much less to report on.

God would not have us be ignorant, but most certainly He doesn’t want His beloved daughters to trade having the mind of Christ for the cares, complexities and chaos of the world.  Also read Philippians 2:5
